A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with a knifepoint robbery at a North Yorkshire market.

The incident occurred at Market Vaults in St Helen's Square, Scarborough, at about 12.25pm today, when a man wearing a mask produced a knife and demanded money from the till.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the member of staff refused and pulled the mask from the man's face and tried to grab the knife, which resulted in a cut to her hand which did not require medical treatment.

The suspect ran away but was followed by members of the public, and police officers arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the robbery in Foreshore Road at 12.37pm.

The spokesman said a knife and a mask had been recovered by officers, no cash or items had been taken in the incident, and the teenager remained in police custody for questioning.

Anyone who saw the incident or has information which could help police should phone Scarborough CID on 101, email rob.henderson@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
