A POLICE motorcyclist suffered a broken leg and another was also injured when they collided in North Yorkshire.

The two officers were riding marked North Yorkshire Police motorbikes in Main Street, Sutton on the Forest, when the crash happened.

They were heading to a cycling event in Ryedale that they were due to police when they crashed at a junction at 9.30am last Saturday, police revealed yesterday.

A force spokeswoman said: "One of the bikes was stationary, waiting to make a right turn.

"The rider of one of the motorcycles was taken to York Hospital where he was treated for a broken leg. The other motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries."

Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick praised the officer whose fibula was broken.

He tweeted: "Wishing one of our RPG motorcyclists speedy recovery after he broke his leg on duty over weekend. So positive despite injury. #teamplayer"

The police spokeswoman said a full investigation was underway to determine the cause of the accident, and asked witnesses to phone 101.
