PUBLIC gardens near York will celebrate Yorkshire Day in style next week with a giant Yorkshire Rose.
The rose has been created at Breezy Knees Gardens at Warthill with white pebbles, and with black gravel used to denote the edges and recycled green glass chippings to give the appearance of leaves.
Colin Parker, who owns the gardens with his wife Marylen, said the 'flower' surrounded a new fountain that had also been installed.
"We wanted to do something different and thought that we didn't have a fountain," he said.
"We wanted the base to look interesting and thought: "We are in York - what better than the White Rose of Yorkshire?"
* Yorkshire Day takes place next Friday, August 1. The gardens, where there is also a giant sculpture of a pair of wellington boots, can be visited daily from10.30am to 5.00pm until September 30, with admission costing £5.50.
