THE second annual ADAM festival has seen hundreds of people through the doors of cultural events across Acomb, despite horrendous weather.

The festival of dance, arts and music was opened at 10am on Saturday by the Lady Mayoress of York Pat Gillies, at the Explore library where she saw mosiac artists at work and listened to performances from a ukelele group.

Festival organiser Keith Meyer said: "It's gone amazingly well. Even though the weather has been a disaster this shows we have enough venues in Acomb to accommodate more than 1000 visitors."

This year's event was an expansion on last year's, with new venue Holgate Memorial Hall hosting a pop up cinema on the Saturday evening.

York MP Hugh Bayley visited the festival for the first time this year, and praised the dedicated voluntary organisers. He said: "This is a brilliant community festival with something for everyone. It's been a great success and thousands of people have appreciated the events all over Acomb."

Now organisers are keen to extent the festival throughout the year, and make more use of the community venues available in Acomb. Keith wants to hear feedback from visitors to this year's event to help bid for funding to put on future events.
