AN ANTIQUE fishing boat has become the latest attraction at a Viking village near York.

The boat is on display among Viking-style houses at Murton Park, where visitors can go and find out more about village life in the Dark Ages.

Dave Thirlwall, site manager at Murton Park, said: "The long ship is a collaborative project with the York Archaeological Trust and we're growing crops together this year and they approached us and said they had this 30-foot Nineteenth Century Norwegian fishing boat which had been donated by the Norwegians during the Viking Festival but they were moving and had nowhere for it to go.

"Although it's 120 years old, it could be 1,020 years old, as the Norwegians never changed the way they build their ships. Now, the public can come and see the boat in an authentic environment, and it shows people what they would have arrive in, which is great."
