THE stars of York's public sector have been nominated for Community Pride awards in recognition of their dedication to their work.

Nominations for the Public Sector Hero award, which is sponsored by City of York Council, have been made for the council's Communities and Equalities Team, as well as waste management officer David Dalton.

The Communities and Equalities team have been put forward by councillor and cabinet member Linsay Cunningham-Cross, who said every single member of the team goes "above and beyond" their day job on a regular basis.

Cllr Cunningham-Cross said: "Their 'drop anything and pitch in' attitude means that they are often the glue that holds events around the city together. You will often see them in the background, scurrying around to make sure everything is in place for a successful event."

Their hard work was evident in the success of the recent Tour de Tang Hall. Cllr Cunningham-Cross added: "They took what was a left-field idea from a local councillor and turned it into one of the most successful community events in the city this year.

"They are a fantastically committed team of community development workers and truly deserve this very special recognition."

Nominated alongside them is David Dalton, who took the award in last year's Community Pride awards. David works as a waste management officer in the city, and has been put forward once again in recognition of the "grand job" he does keeping the streets clean and tidy for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
