PLANS have been submitted for a new 31-pitch gypsy and travellers' site near Selby.

Developers want to create the new site at Brick Farm Cottage in Camblesforth Road, which has previous planning permission for HGV access, which a report submitted with the plans said "overcomes a major stumbling block".

The Selby District Local Plan, which is to be replaced by the new Core Strategy, states the council will deliver a five-year supply of deliverable sites, after the Traveller Needs Assessment review last year. The review concluded that Selby District Council needed to create 33 new Traveller pitches by 2028.

The report said: "Existing buildings on site can be quickly and easily converted to form a dayroom centre for the residents and a large garage could be converted to form a small shop. In addition the site can accommodate up to 31 pitches which more or less is SDC’s requirement for the next 15 years."

"The proposed development is easily achievable, the main restriction to most similar developments, indeed to that of a smaller site for 10 Log Cabins adjacent is that of access and drainage. With regard to the subject site this will not be an issue as the access is approved and drainage can run into the common drain to the south and then east of the site."

A decision on the application is expected by August 21, and comments can be submitted to the council until July 24.
