A CONCERT is being held to honour the life of a York school boy whose brave fight against cancer moved people around the world.

Lord Deramore’s Primary School pupil Jamie Inglis died last year after suffering from the aggressive childhood cancer neuroblastoma for half his life.

Jamie's bravery and unstinting smile inspired thousands of people to support him in undergoing treatment in Germany and the US.

Now his courage is due to be celebrated with the event “Remembering Jamie’s Smile” at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at the University of York on July 26.

Led by the London Welsh Male Voice Choir, the evening will feature beautiful wartime songs and performances by the York Military Wives.

The acts recognise Jamie’s military connections as his dad John used to be in the Army and the Forces community rallied around the family after his diagnosis.

Vicky, Jamie's mum, said: "The reason we are doing this is Jamie's imprint is so big we can't ignore it . Over a year-and-a-half since Jamie passed away it seems the right time to do it. We have seen children in that time fighting neuroblastoma and it brings it home to you that Jamie is by no means the last child to go through this.

"The funds raised will go to the charity which will then help other children and families.

"It will be an amazing event. To have the London Welsh Male Voice Choir doing this in the north is so unique and that encapsulates Jamie's spirit, he was so unique".

The tickets are priced at £20 with all proceeds benefitting the NCCA UK (Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance UK), through which Jamie's parents have pledged to continue their fight against neuroblastoma. Tickets for students are £15 and for OAPs, £10.

JCT 600 has already offered sponsorship to the event but additional support of local businesses and organisations by advertising in the Souvenir Programme is welcomed at £120 for an A4 advert.

Raffle tickets are also on sale and will include prizes such as a Golf Cabriolet to drive for a weekend with insurance, a years supply of Yorkshire Tea from Betty's worth £70 and Jamie’s Italian in York has provided a hamper of Jamie Oliver goodies worth £50.

For tickets, inquiries and raffle tickets, please email vicky@ncca-uk.org or call the NCCA UK on 020 7284 0800 or visit http://www.ncca-uk.org/events/rememberingjamiessmile

Tickets can also be picked up from the reception at The Press in Walmgate, which is open 9am to 5pm on weekdays.
