WHEN it came to deciding who to dress up as for Tadcaster Grammar School's leavers' week activities, the choice was obvious for one student.

Teenager Harry Potter, finished his school career by going in dressed as his namesake - JK Rowling's schoolboy wizard.

Harry was one of dozens of youngsters from the North Yorkshire secondary school celebrating the end of five years of hard work with, among other things, a visit to Alton Towers, and a trip down memory lane with out-going head teacher, Geoff Mitchell at a special assembly.

Pupils also took part in the school's traditional Wide Games at Tadcaster Grammar School with youngsters in fancy dress taking part in all manner of games from tug of war, to water fights, three-legged races and obstacle course events.

Among those costumes not inspired by Hogwarts there were air hostesses, elephants, cowboys, chickens and ABBA.

The leavers’ assembly was made more poignant by the fact that Mr Mitchell is leaving the school after 16 years to take retirement.

In his speech he paid tribute to the hard work of all the Year 11 students and expressed his gratitude to them for making him so proud to have been a part of their journey over the last five years.

The week of special events culminated with the prom on Friday evening, when students arrived in style, dressed in their finery and let their hair down at a party and disco held in Toulston Lodge Hall and marquee.
