UPGRADED public toilets have opened at two York car parks as part of a £650,000 investment across the city by City of York Council.

The Union Terrace car park conveniences now includes unisex cubicles, a changing place facility for disabled people and a baby change facility. There is also a night toilet facility available during the day at busy times.

At the Nunnery Lane car park, there are two unisex cubicles – one of which is accessible and which has a baby change facility – and a night time toilet.

Meanwhile, the old conveniences in Exhibition Square have been demolished and six unisex and two accessible temporary toilets with baby change will be in place by July 3.

A spokeswoman said consent for the demolition had been granted previously and full planning permission for new and improved toilets was expected on August 13. She said refurbishment contractor Healthmatic would put out a tender on August 1 for local contractors to carry out the works to build the new toilets and a proposed new retail unit.
