Dozens of volunteers will be putting their back into a charity challenge when Dragon Boats take to the Ouse next month.

Thirty six teams in fancy dress will be in action from 10am to 3.30pm on Sunday July 13 to raise cash for the Jack Raine Foundation and other good causes.

Organiser York Rotary Club is selling lucky numbered programmes for a prize of four first class tickets donated by East Coast Railways.

The free event includes stalls and activities on Museum Gardens bank.

Club President Nigel Naish said: “We’ve had a fantastic response. I hope we’ll have a great turnout."

Raising money for the Young Archaeologists Club will be the newly formed YAC Dolls which includes Time Team's Phil Harding.

Captain Elvie Thompson said: “The Club is a network of volunteer-run youth clubs all around the UK, that give thousands of children the chance to get mud under their fingernails doing real archaeology."
