BRASS bands from around Yorkshire descended on York at the weekend for the 2014 Brassed On York Festival.
The festival, which is now in its fourth year, saw more than a dozen bands from Wetherby, Kippax and York perform in Parliament Street and the Coppergate shopping centre over the weekend.
On Sunday, the Black Dyke Band performed a Yorkshire Prom concert at York Barbican, and all bands were given a special yellow baton to lead their concerts, in honour of Mike Hughes, who is raising £19,000 to ride in the Marie Curie Power Peloton ahead of the Tour de France.
Kate Lock, who played in two of the bands and helped organise the event, said: "I'm so thrilled. What we wanted to do with this was to showcase brass bands because they are pure Yorkshire and we have the most brass bands and the best brass bands, and they have really done themselves proud.
"It's been such a nice friendly crowd, very mixed, and not traditional brass band audience, who have suddenly seen how amazing they can be. I'm thrilled and proud."
