ONE of York's newest restaurants welcomed its latest celebrity diner this week as southern-chef Tom Kerridge paid a visit to The Star Inn the City.

After filming in the region for a new television series, the man behind Proper Pub Food and Spring Kitchen, visited the restaurant with five of his crew members last night.

Tom tweeted this morning, first saying "Great dinner last night at The Star Inn The City , thank you very much @andrewpern xxx", then to say "@Starinnthecity great night guys!! Thank you so much!! Xx".

Justin Brosenitz, co-owner of The Star Inn the City, which opened in Museum Street in October last year, said: "Tom was a fantastic guest. He was really friendly with our customers and all the staff. He was a really amicable chap.

"He and his crew commented how they thought the restaurant was fantastic, and really unique. We were chuffed with that."

Tom had previously visited The Star Inn the City's sister restaurant The Star Inn, in Harome, where he took with him a host of friends and chefs to celebrate his 40th birthday.

He is the latest in a line of celebrities to visit The Star Inn the City, with The Press reporting in February that Heston Blumenthal had dined there.

Since then the restaurant has been visited by television present Jake Humphrey, and more recently Brian Turner and Janet Street Porter, who were filming for a new BBC televisions series Taste of Britain.
