THE Big Questions, BBC1’s flagship live moral and ethical debate show, is coming to York on Sunday.

A live show, set to be broadcast on BBC1 between 10am and 11am, will feature debates on two controversial topics relating to two current news headlines. These questions are pencilled in as being: Should we try to defeat Islamism and does Pope John Paul II deserve sainthood? However, the questions could change.

A special will also be filmed in the afternoon, which will be broadcast the following week and is set to debate the question: Is it more rational to believe in God?

Researcher Jonathan Mann, said the show, presented by Nicky Campbell, was particularly keen to have an audience comprising local residents from a wide variety of backgrounds and faiths to get a full spectrum of views.

“The show features specially invited front-row speakers who have a particular interest, expertise or personal story that relating to one of the week’s topics,” he said.

“The front-row speakers discuss these topics in front of a wider studio audience and there may be an opportunity for the audience to put a question forward to the speakers.”

Update: All tickets for the show have now been sold

The organisers withheld the precise location for security reasons, to ensure only those with tickets attended.
