ALMOST 80 per cent of schools in York are either good or outstanding according to the latest data released by the schools inspector, Ofsted.

Figures for school inspections up to December 31 last year show that of the city's 64 state schools, 15 held the top outstanding rating and 35 were good, which combined, made up 78 per cent of schools.

This compared with 79 per cent of schools in North Yorkshire and 67 per cent of East Riding Council schools rated as good or outstanding.

The same data showed that at the end of last year there were three schools in York rated as in adequate, seven in North Yorkshire and none in East Riding.

Meanwhile in York 11 "require improvement", the old grading of satisfactory, with 73 in North Yorkshire and 49 in the East Riding Council area .

A spokeswoman for City of York Council said that their latest results show more schools have moved into the top two grades with 15 or 23 per cent outstanding, with 38 schools or 59 per cent "good" and nine or 14 per cent requiring improvement and two or three per cent "inadequate".

Since Christmas, 5 schools have been inspected:
Stockton on the Forest and Wheldrake were good before and stayed good.
St Barnabas and Carr Junior were satisfactory before and improved to good.
Poppleton Road was inadequate before and improved to good.
It's all on the Ofsted website if you look - the school reports are there now even though the collated data hasn't been updated. Not sure why you think it's "spin" – the figures speak for themselves.
