TWO York charities are set to benefit to the tune of thousands of pounds following one of the highlights of York’s year of civic fundraising.

The Lord Mayor’s Charity Ball, held on Saturday night in the Voltigeur Suite at York Racecourse, saw guests dig deep to help the two good causes chosen by this year’s Lord Mayor of York, Micklegate councillor Julie Gunnell.

The money raised will go to IDAS York, which helps victims of domestic abuse, and the Jack Raine Foundation, a charity which supports vulnerable children and young people.

The ball was sponsored by She Loves York, and Coun Gunnell said: “People donated some fantastic raffle prizes and we had an awful lot of support from local business, so we’re delighted with how it went.

“She Loves York’s founder Tricia Sheriff went way above the call of duty with everything she did to organise and support the ball, get prizes and sell tickets, and I want to thank her so much. IDAS York and the Jack Raine Foundation are two great local charities, so I’m delighted we are able to help them.”

Forthcoming events in the civic fundraising calendar include the Lord Mayor’s Golf Day at Pike Hills Golf Club and events for International Women’s Week, which takes place next month.
