IT IS easy to be blind to your own faults, and for almost a year it would seem the people of Pannal have done exactly that.

The signwriter obviously needed some L-plates when he worked on the “Pannal Villlage Hall” sign, but is has taken months for anyone to notice the problem in the North Yorkshire village near Harrogate.

An eagle-eye passerby spotted it, and tweeted a photo saying “What the “L’s” going on here in Pannal? Not the signwriter’s finest hour!”

The village hall’s chairman, Pat Fitzgerald, said he was astonished no one had noticed the error in the months since the hall changed its name from “Pannal Memorial Hall” and replaced the sign.

He said: “The sign has actually been up for almost a year now and no one else had noticed the error!

“However we do have a good reputation for our little extra features - including big cinema screen, free broadband, new table tennis tables, snooker and pool tables, cheap bar and cheap hire rates.”
