THESE youngsters from across York, North and East Yorkshire have taken part in a world record attempt.

Pupils from York schools Carr Junior School in Acomb, Burnholme Community College and Applefields, Fishergate Primary and Our Lady’s Queen of Martrys RC joined children from Pocklington CE in East Yorkshire and Green Hammerton and Forest of Galtres primaries in North Yorkshire to take part in a world record attempt for the most people signing and singing a song on the same day.

The sign2sing event was organised by the charity SignHealth on Wednesday and participants made a donation to take part.

Linda Petrons, events and corporate fundraiser at SignHealth, said: “Last year 116,980 people took part in our sign2sing 2013 event and broke the Guinness World Record. The previous record was 114,277, which we set in 2012.

On Wednesday more than 200,000 children and adults were registered to take part with more than 920 schools and organisations across the country and overseas having signed up and we’re pleased that eight schools in the York area were involved.

“Sign2sing is also a fundraiser for us through a suggested £1 donation from everyone taking part. Children were asked to wear a colourful scarf like Olli the monkey, who is our official mascot, to school on the day of sign2sing and take in their £1.”

SignHealth will use the money raised to continue improving the mental and physical health and wellbeing of deaf children and adults.

The results of the record attempt are still being varified, but it is not too late to donate at sign2sing.org.uk
