OYSTERS, chocolate and avocado are all known aphrodisiacs but now a new ice cream promises to get the pulse racing as Valentine’s Day approaches.

York food producer Pucketts’s Pickles has teamed up with Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream to create an ice cream combining carrot and cardamom – an aromatic spice believed to be a powerful aphrodisiac in some cultures.

It is based on the Puckett’s Pickles carrot and cardomom chutney, which combines eastern and western flavours.

Sarah Puckett, founder of Puckett’s Pickles in Heworth Road, said: “It was great fun working with Yummy Yorkshire and seeing my chutneys being made into ice cream. Who would have thought you could combine the two? And my goodness, the resulting ice cream tastes so delicious.

“If you take into consideration the additional health benefits of cardamom in treating things like respiratory allergies, digestive problems and even depression, it surely makes it one of Yummy Yorkshire’s most medicinal flavours ever. There’s no need to feel guilty indulging in this one.”

The flavour has gone on sale at Yummy Yorkshire’s ice cream parlour near Huddersfield and is also available for restaurants, delis, farm shops and independent retailers to order.

Yummy Yorkshire co-founder Louise Holmes said: “We believe that Valentine’s Day is perfect for bringing people together to share intimate moments, and what better way to do so than with some decadent ice cream”.
