Car park surprise is a festive treat for Adam Gough
IT was a surprise Christmas present few would dream of – and even fewer would want.
But a night at a service station motel on the A1, with a clear view of the car park, was nothing less than bliss for Adam Gough.
But he has an equal love of cars and his uncle, Graham Bell, secretly decided to organise the ultimate Christmas treat at the Days Inn motel at Wetherby.
After he had explained the situation to the Days Inn manager, a complimentary room near the car park was offered for Adam in the run-up to the festive season.
As the two walked into the room, Adam believed it was simply so his uncle could view it, prior to booking it for a day at the races with Adam’s aunt, Helen Graham, a teacher from Halifax, said that when Adam found out the room was for him, for the night, he was beside himself with excitement.
“Plasma screen, big shower, personal kettle... and cars by the dozen,” he said.
“There can’t be many people whose idea of bliss is to watch vehicles moving in and out of a service station, but my nephew is one of them.
“It was nice for my sister Sarah to have some respite from the 24-hours-a-day Christmas carol CDs, but I got no sleep as he was up at the window every twenty minutes reporting on various makes and models.
“Some may see our sense of humour and outlook on life as strange or odd, but anyone close to Adam realises how we can all benefit from seeing life in an abstract way – however crazy a Christmas treat it may seem.”
He added that the family was already planning another secret gift with a twist for next Christmas.
