Civil servants to take strike action
8:56am Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
ABOUT 100 York civil servants will go on strike on Friday in protest at Government privatisation plans.
Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) said the industrial action involved Defra staff at the Kings Pool complex in Peasholme Green.
The Press reported union claims earlier this month that more than 170 jobs at Kings Pool were at risk, with some of their work even being sent to India.
The PCS said the Cabinet Office was setting up a new limited company involving French multinational Steria to carry out “back office” work within Defra and the DWP nationwide, involving payroll, human resources, procurement and finance staff.
