SCARBOROUGH bid to confirm its position as one of the country’s top surfing destinations with the return of UK Pro Surf Tour to North Bay.

For the second year running, Scarborough hosted more than 100 of the best long boarders in the country as they aimed to win the UK Professional Surfing title on Saturday and Sunday.

Local surfers joined the professionals to compete in the event, which is expected to have injected an extra £300,000 to the town’s economy as the tourism season draws to a close.

Other attractions included flips, twists and jumps galore as freestylers from the Mountain and BMX Show in town and a live music stage on the North Bay and various beach front venues, with performances from a number of bands and DJs.

There was also a state of the art surf simulator, allowing the public to experience the sensation of surfing, and the VW 'shine and show', giving spectators the chance to check out retro motor classics, typically associated with outdoor sporting events.
