Stoptober stop smoking bid is launched
9:31am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
STOPTOBER – a bid to get as many people to stop smoking as possible in October – was officially launched in York yesterday.
Someone who quits for the whole of October and does not start again could gain an extra seven days of life every 28 days for the rest of their life, Public Health England has said. Those who stop for 28 days are five times more likely to quit for good, according to figures.
In York, North and East Yorkshire, smokers are being encouraged to sign up for Stoptober and are offered “as little or much support as they want” to stop smoking from October 1.
For more information about Stoptober and the North Yorkshire and York NHS Stop Smoking Service, phone 0300 303 1603. If you live in East Yorkshire, phone the Hull and East Riding Stop Smoking Service on 0800 915 59 59.
