NORTH Yorkshire’s record-breaking Oldest Choir In The World is taking part in a Care Home Idol competition to find the most talented care home residents in the UK.
The choir, from St John’s House care home in Parker Lane, Kirk Hammerton, has entered the competition run by website carehome.co.uk
The home’s choir already holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest choir, with an average age of 91, but now it will be competing against other talented care home residents, staff and entertainers.
St John’s House’s activity co-ordinator, Ruth Strangeway, said they were “delighted” to take part.
Ruth said: “Singing and working together as a team is bringing the small community at St John’s many benefits.”
They have seen fewer falls, and improved appetites and general wellbeing and purpose since the choir began, she added.
The choir’s entry video has been uploaded to carehome.co.uk, and now the choir needs votes public support to make them the winner. To watch the video and vote, go to carehome.co.uk/idol
