Delving into history of Station Rise building
8:08am Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
YORK’S Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa is inviting local people to share their memories of the building when free history tours are staged on Sunday.
The guided tours of the five-star hotel in Station Rise, right, will give visitors the chance to learn more about its design, changing use and conversion.
General manager Maria Florou urged anyone who had previously worked in the building to share memories and take photos along, so that a narrative history could be built up. Photos will be scanned while people wait and given back, she said.
“We ran these tours when we first opened, and have subsequently hosted them annually as part of York Residents’ Festival,” she said.
“But we’re always massively over-subscribed, which is why we’re now launching them as quarterly events.”
She said people had already shared some amazing stories. “For example, we discovered that a baby was born in the caretaker’s flat. That’s now the hotel penthouse!”
• The tours will take place between noon and 4pm.
