MICHAEL DUCKWORTH has found himself a new club after departing York City in late April.

Duckworth has made the move to Vanarama National League North outfit Scarborough Athletic after it was announced that he would be released from York upon the expiry of his contract.

The experienced defender managed just six appearances in the 2023/24 season due to an abundance of injuries, whilst also being limited to just four minutes of game time since March 2 under manager Adam Hinshelwood.

Duckworth was part of the play-off winning City side that gained promotion from the Vanarama National League North in 2022, ending a five-year stay in the regional divisions.

In total, Duckworth would make 52 league appearances for the Minstermen over a four year spell at the football club.

He becomes the latest in a long line of former York players to make the switch to Scarborough, which includes Ryan Whitley, Olly Dyson and Finlay Barnes just from last season alone.

The 32-year-old will play under a former City and Tadcaster Albion stalwart in Jonathan Greening, who also boasts a Champions League medal too after his spell with Manchester United.

Greening has been in charge of the Seadogs since 2021, having also held coaching roles within the Minstermen's academy and the York-based i2i International Soccer Academy, where he worked alongside another former City face in the form of Richard Cresswell.

Greening was pleased to acquire the services of Duckworth, telling the club website: “Ducky is a vastly experienced player, especially at a higher level.

“He can play full-back, centre-back or wing-back and on both sides, so it gives us options.

“He is a really great lad who will fit in well with the rest of the team, so I’m looking forward to having him in our squad."
